After playing at South by Southwest Emos main stage in 2009 and later Austin City Limits Festival, Passion Pit was back in Austin for two sold out dates for their new spring tour with Tokyo Police Club and Brahms. On Saturday night, the Boston, Massachusetts band whose lead singer, Michael Angelakos, mentioned that it was good to be back and playing at the iconic Stubbs instead of the “weird” SXSW experience a year before.
After being warmed up by the energetic Tokyo Police Club, the audience was in full frenzy when Passion Pit took the stage. Quickly they lived up to their indie dance party reputation as melodic electro-pop beats filled the air. It was contagious as a rhythm of dance flowed over the audience. Angelakos mentioned that this was the hottest set that he had ever preformed.
The VIP area did lack water, however most of the crowd was happy to persevere and be part of the musical experience. A surprise guest couple took the stage half way as a hipster marriage proposal took place and was witnessed by all. Of course the blushing girl said yes with enthusiasm. Surprised by the lifelong gesture the band wished them the best and continued to play to the applause of the crowd. A cover of the Cranberries "Dream" was played to the joy of the audience and finished with the trendy and likable "Sleepy Head."
